Back of Chapel is a recently renovated 150 year old Victorian Terrace on the doorstep of Chapel Street - one of Melbourne's most funky and exciting areas. We've a huge fully equipped kitchen, private showers, recliner chairs, comfy couches, internet access, balconies, library, TV lounge (you really have to see the size of the TV to believe it!), new 2nd TV room, leafy courtyard, air-conditioning in common rooms, BBQ, laundry facilities...phew...what else?...how about free daily breakfast, $5 BBQs in summer, free wine or beer free pie and chip nights in winter, free movie nights, free lockers, friday poker nights and in the coming weeks we will have a new and funky bar on the premises! Have we got your attention yet?
If not shall I point out we're only a hop, skip and a jump from St. Kilda and the city!
We have 2 new dorm rooms available from November 2008
We will send you - or take you - in the right direction. Nothing is too small for us to undertake.
All you have to do is ask!

Peter our veteran hostel manager is head of a new enthusiastic team.Our aim is to uphold our reputation of being one of the cleanest and friendliest hostels in Melbourne.
New mattresses, pillows, linen. Hostel cleaned daily
Our hostel is not child-friendly as we have a bar on-site and lots of young people (over 18) drinking alcohol ad having fun!
No animals allowed as some people have allergies to them in dorms - no joke!

* Please note that our triple rooms consist of a double bed and a single bed (bunk style) and NOT 3 single beds.

We have opened our new hostel (share house with private rooms) for backpackers who are not backpackers any more its the first Melbourne flashpacker for long term stays please contact us directly.

Hostel reception hours are:

8am-6pm Monday and Friday
8am-4pm Tuesday to Thursday
9am to 7pm weekends (with a 2 hour break from 1pm to 3pm).

Arrivals outside of these times will result in a credit card charge for the first night, and a special late check in procedure will be organised for you (as detailed via email).

During major events and holidays we will charge full amount of total booking for those who do not show or do not cancel without a 48 (7 days notice December/January) hour notice period
We will require a 10% deposit for December and January bookings on booking

Same applies for christmas to New Year bookings and Australian Open in January, however we ask for 1 week's cancellation or we will charge for your stay at the normal rate not the discounted hostelworld rate

Grand Prix week bookings must be paid at time of booking or not guaranteed March 10 -March 16
(no refund on cancellations)
If you require to cancel your reservation at regular times please give us 48 hours notice(not peak times)/7 days notice (peak periods) otherwise the cost of your booking will be forfeited at the rull rate which can be slightly higher than on this site.
December - January we will need 1 weeks cancellation.
Reservations made after 5 pm cannot be guaranteed on same day of arrival.
If you intend coming in tonight then please book prior to 7 pm or else chek in at 8 am the following morning
Please note no check ins on jan 1 2009
December 2, we open our new dorms
april 2009 we shall be opening 2 more dorm rooms wiht own ensuite facilities
