Princesa 23. Barcelona Knows How to Party.

Though my knowledge of Spanish cities may be limited to Barcelona, I can't see how it could get any better. Barcelona is a young, lively city that never, ever sleeps. And neither should you, if you ever end up spending time here.

My introduction to Barcelona involves tips for partying and crashing. I highly recommend a bar called Princesa 23. An original title, considering this is also the establishment's address. To get there, take the Metro Line 4 to Jaume I and walk down Princesa. It is almost guaranteed that there will be a guy standing on the corner of the street handing out flyers for the bar. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS. Their drink specials are top-notch: the week I was there, they were running a special that involved free shots just for presenting the flyer and buying a drink. They were also featuring EU3 mojitos.

The atmosphere is young, and most people come here to party before the party really begins, from about 11pm-2:30am. I would estimate that the clientele is comprised of half tourists, half actual Spaniards. It tends to be a very international crowd. This night spot is just the beginning in Barcelona.

There are a few good options for bars in clubs that one can walk to from Princesa 23. I recommend the Port Olympic, which hosts a row of bars and clubs that stay open till almost literally the break of dawn. Grab a map, or ask someone, and start walking.

When you've ushered in the sun, it might be a good time to crash for the rest of the morning, and possibly even the afternoon. I recommend a youth hostel as a cheap way to stay and to meet a great international crowd. I like to stay on Las Ramblas, a main drag near the Port. Word on the street is that the Sun and Moon Hostel and the Kabul Backpacker's Hostels are great deals. If, however, you are a glutton for punishment and want to save 5 euros a night, stay at Las Ramblas 42. Not only is it the dodgiest place I have ever laid my head, it is extremely difficult to find, and not at all as it is described on the internet. Only masochists need apply.

Barcelona knows how to party. The only question left is, do you?
