Pensions, like hostals and residencias, are a great value in Spain. Run by families, the ones we stayed in were all extremely clean and cheap, and you get your own key to the building. Also, most of the triples worked out well for us, because one of the beds was always a double. The proprietors were always happy to show us the rooms first, and a private bathroom was never far away.
