Take to the Hills! The Tatra Mountains
The splendor and the fresh air of the Tatra Mountains are only a 2-hour bus ride away in Zakopane. Skiers delight in winter, and a bunch of good trekking when the snow isn't there, which is, unfortunately, only about 3 months a year if you're lucky.
There are mountain hostels and clearly marked trails, some of them quite challenging, and once you get above 2,000 meters, you don't run into too many groups of schoolchildren. A definite trip to make when you start feeling that the greenery of Krakow isn't cutting it and you need to be reminded that there's something beautiful in the region, but be aware that even some of the lower trails are not for beginners.
