It's true, hostel beds in Munich are hard to come by, and probably the most expensive in Germany. When we were there, the cheapest place we could find was the Kolpinghaus St. Theresia hostel, which at ?20 a bed was still no bargain. But it was the cheapest thing available-we thought-so we schlepped on out. Well, it took us *forever* to find...the directions we got were pretty bad, and the neighborhood was confusing. When we finally found it, we didn't even recognize it for what it was, as it was just a dark, lifeless cube with no door in sight. A little exploring led us to the entrance and the check-in, which was manned by a listless clerk who was more interested in her cell phone than us. We forked out the ?80 and were rewarded with a 3rd floor rectangular room of the drabbest sort. Luckily it was just the 4 of us-I don't think anything else would have fit. The whole place felt more like a clammy, empty jail than a lively hostel. In the morning, we did get a free continental breakfast, but the showers were another disappointment: communal, without even a curtain to separate the heads. We decided we could live another 12 hours without showering-we didn't smell that bad yet-and checked out, on to greener pastures. So, in conclusion, if you're desperate, this place is huge so you can probably find a bed...but stay at your own risk.
