rss The Lowdown on Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

Holy Cow Restaurant.

Holy Cow has been around for a few years, and after much consideration, I think it must be the best place to eat in Sihanoukville.

About halfway between the beach and town, off of Ekreach road (opposite Bamboo Lights), Holy Cow is a real testament to quality. Everything is made fresh - the tomato sauce, the bread, the pesto - even the beans that are smothered on the Beanie Spud are homemade, and you can really taste the difference.

There is a very good selection of simple food, and plenty of it. A starter (I would try the pumpkin soup) an entree and a dessert will leave you close to bursting.

The only dissapointment was the 'Vegan Chocolate Love Sponge with Chocolate Love Juice', which being vegan, lacks the various qualities (fat, primarily) that make chocolate taste like, well, chocolate.

There is a bar on the first floor that is cozy and cool, although it doesn't seem to get a lot of action. The margaritas are super.

Finally, all of this good clean fun and plentiful food is cheap - very cheap. My last meal there was with seven friends, 4 starters, 7 entrees, 4 deserts, a couple of cokes and two bottle of wine, which came to an amazing $8 per person.
