The Lowdown on Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
March 25th, 2006 | The lowdown by Gordon Candelin
Tea and Coffee World. Cambodia's Starbucks.
Tea and Coffee World had its first incarnation in Cambodia as a franchise of the Vietnamese cafe chain Trung Nguyen, and is part of the BBWorld (rip off McDonalds) and CD World (rip off dvds and music) family.
The main branch, which sits on Sihanouk Boulevard near Olympic Stadium is actually a very comfortable cafe / restaurant that serves the most viscous Vietnamese drip coffee in town that people either love or hate.
Tea and Coffee World is a uniquely Cambodian place, and expats are usually few and far between. The interior is stylish and roomy, with all of the Starbuck-esque accoutrements (and some of the typical pirate cock-ups.)
In addition to various types of coffee, they serve fruit juices and smoothies and typical Cambdian food. (Unless you're terribly fond of strawberry Qwik, I'd stay away from the strawberry smoothie...)
All in all worth a visit.
